Support for ID cards

The English are discussing a very hot topic today via the internet: whether the people agree on the implementation of identity cards for the citizens. UK's Home Secretary can now breathe easily because the officials voted in favor of the government's plans for issuing identity cards, although there are still a few who still rebel against the plan.

However, the people are divided over the pros and cons of having these ID cards. On the pro side, the ID cards are good for identification and hassle-free transactions. These would definitely save any person the burden of carrying too many cards that won't be honored anyway in some of the establishments. With an ID card like these, one would be enough to fit the purpose.

Two, the English won't be burdened by the National Census and the Internal Revenue anymore because they could easily track down everybody- those who are already dead, still living in the country, as well as those tax evaders. These would mean less expense for the surveys that the government does every year, and more income because they will be able to collect efficiently.

Three, the cards are deemed a necessity especially in reducing identity theft, fraudulent impersonation, multiple benefit claims, etc., etc.

On the other hand, many have disagreed. They say that it's another "Big Brother" state, wherein the government has the authority to know details and information that are otherwise confidential. Just like in the reality TV show, the government can now view any citizen's file (even the day-today life) whenever they have the fancy to do so. They believe that this is another way for the government to control their constituents.

Second, these cards being compulsory, an ordinary citizen without it can be considered an outlaw just because one wasn't able to comply. And with the cost of getting one? Surely 85 pounds is too much.

If I were a digital printer, the identity cards are a most welcome plan for me. I mean, imagine the numbers it would add to my income. And not just for one time output; this could become my bread and butter for the rest of my life. That is, if I were able to get the job.

With the latest digital technology, reproducing these cards over and over again would be a breeze. On the other hand, on demand printing would also be easy, particularly with the onset of advanced equipment and software that allows one to print short run. No more fear of obsolescent materials and results, as well as wastage of precious government money that the taxpayers dutifully pay annually.
